What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principal that there are reflex points on the feet, that correspond to every gland, organ and part of the body. It is believed that by stimulating these points we affect the part of the body that the reflex corresponds to by opening up the energy flow. It promotes the natural function of the organs and glands and brings the body to the state where it can heal itself naturally without adverse side effects. By applying pressure with specific thumb and finger techniques, reflexology will reduce tension, promote relaxation, increase circulation and bring the body back to balance.
This is an ancient practice that has been passed down from Chinese culture but historical documents show it was used in Japan, Russia, India and Egypt as well. Reflexology was brought to the western world about 1 century ago and is now a common, known healing art.
How does Reflexology work?
According to Chinese medicine, the sensory nerves of the internal organs all end in the soles of the feet. It is believed that toxins (such as uric acid and calcium crystals) settle into the lowest area of the body(feet) and the nerve endings there become congested, creating energy blocks in our meridians. By loosening up these congested areas through manipulation, this allows the body to flush out the toxins. A reflexology session brings about deep relaxation, relief from stress and a general sense of well being which promotes the body’s own healing powers.
What else does Reflexology Help with?
Besides restoring balance to the parts of the body, reflexology can improve circulation, relieve pain, reduce headaches, promote better sleep, improve digestion and elimination, and help maintain a healthy lifestyle by reducing stress.
There is no risk to reflexology and is suitable for any age group.
